#19 Men's Soccer Extends Unbeaten Streak to 11; Blanks Ramapo 4-0

Montclair, NJ – The #19 Montclair State University Men's Soccer team posted its ninth clean sheet of the season as it blanked Ramapo 4-0 on Saturday night at MSU Soccer Park to extend its unbeaten streak to 11 games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (12-2-2, 4-0-2 NJAC) applied pressure offensively over the opening five minutes on shots from TOMAS MONTEIRO and JOHANDY BALBUENA VENTURA. Shortly after, KEVIN CONTRERAS gathered the ball along the far side of the field, made a run towards the edge of the box, and flicked a centering cross that landed in front of goal. The ball went off the keeper's hands and found the feet of Monteiro, who sent a right-footed shot into the back of the net to push the home side in front. The Red Hawks doubled their advantage in the 13th minute on an own goal from the Roadrunners.
  • Montclair accumulated another pair of shots as the game clock passed 20 minutes in the opening stanza. LOGAN NENO entered the game in the 29th minute, recording a shot immediately after that had to be collected by Ramapo. Six minutes later, IVAN GARCIA wove through defenders along the far touch line and cut back towards goal, chipping the ball towards the back post where it was headed past the keeper by Neno. Montclair had one final shot on goal of the half, coming from Neno in the 45th minute, with Ramapo tallying their only shot of the stanza as time expired.
  • Following the halftime break and a tight opening ten minutes of the second half, the two sides traded shots on goal with Contreras having a rip get parried away, as PIERRE SOUMEILLANT notched his first save of the night shortly after. After Ramapo recorded another shot shortly after, the Red Hawks amassed the game's next three attempts before they found the back of the net for the final time in the 71st minute. Garcia collected the ball in the middle of the park and slotted a feed to JOSH VIRGIL along the far wing. The midfielder broke towards the edge of the box and played a left-footed service into the box that was flicked in by Neno.
  • Montclair closed out the night on the front foot as they rattled off four over the next five minutes, including attempts on goal from Virgil and Neno. The barrage continued with another shot on goal from Neno shortly after, as Garcia tallied a pair of looks as the half bridged into the 80th minute. Ramapo registered a pair of shots in the waning stages of the contest, but could not find the frame as the Red Hawks sealed another home shutout victory to extend their unbeaten streak.
