Pitman, NJ- Announced on Monday afternoon by the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) office, Montclair State University athletics saw three of its student-athletes get tabbed as NJAC Athletes of the Week for their performances between September 28 and October 4.

KEVIN CONTRERAS earned NJAC Offensive Player of the Week for men's soccer. Aleen Whitehead was named NJAC Defensive Player of the Week for women's volleyball.
MIKE FIRETTO was spotlighted as the NJAC Special Teams Player of the Week for football.

Contreras led the way for the Red Hawks during a 3-0 week. He totaled 11 points with five goals and an assist. Four of his five goals happened during NJAC play, with two goals in a 5-0 win against New Paltz and two in a 4-2 win at Rutgers-Newark.Â

Whitehead was once again stellar during a 2-0 NJAC week for Montclair. She totaled 49 digs (6.13 per set), along with six assists, three service aces, and a kill. Her week was highlighted by a 35-dig performance during Montclair's 3-2 win on the road at New Paltz on Tuesday. That mark is tied for the most digs by an NJAC athlete this season in a single match.

Firetto stepped up big for Montclair in a 42-14 win against Kean on Saturday. He was a perfect 4-for-4 on his PAT's and had two field goals, one from 20 yards out and one from 48 yards out right at the end of the first half. He also kicked off seven times for 368 yards, for an average of 52.6 per kick.Â

Whitehead earned her second NJAC Defensive Player of the Week honor in the past three weeks. Contreras and Firetto earned the first weekly NJAC awards of their careers.
