Men's Soccer Battles TCNJ to Scoreless Draw

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University Men's Soccer team battled The College of New Jersey to a scoreless draw on Wednesday night at MSU Soccer Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (10-2-1, 2-0-1 NJAC) saw a pair of shots from TYLER DIAZ blocked in the seventh minute, with the first attempt on goal from the home side coming two minutes later, with SEBASTIAN LAPCZYNSKI seeing a shot off a corner kick stopped towards the top portion of the frame. TCNJ's only opportunity of the opening stanza came in the same minute, as a shot from the Lions went out top right.
  • Montclair continued to search for the breakthrough, as JOSH VIRGIL saw an attempt run just right of the post in the 13th minute. With the half approaching its midway point, KENET LOPEZ recorded an opportunity on frame that had to be collected top left by the TCNJ keeper. KEVIN CONTRERAS ripped a shot that went left of frame 90 seconds later, with the final opportunity of the half coming in the 33rd minute, as THOMAS PUGLIESE launched a header off a corner kick that was stopped in the top left corner of the net.
  • Coming out of the halftime break, TOMAS MONTEIRO generated a shot on goal 70 seconds in that had to be parried away by the visitors. Shortly after, Contreras slotted a shot towards the bottom right of frame that was stopped by the Lions, halting the early flurry from the home side. The best chance of the night for TCNJ came in the 51st minute, as PIERRE SOUMEILLANT swatted away a rolling ball right along the line to keep the game scoreless. A few minutes later, Diaz rang a shot off the crossbar in another solid scoring opportunity for the Red Hawks.
  • The final shot of the night for TCNJ was recorded in the 55th minute, as the Red Hawks back line tightened up defensively the rest of the way as Montclair began to push on the front foot. In a sequence in the 61st minute, Lopez saw a shot blocked that directly led to an attempt on frame from Monteiro that was collected by the visitors. Monteiro saw another shot on goal stopped 12 minutes later, with the two sides holding each other without a shot until the 88th minute. That opportunity would be the final on goal for the night, as Contreras ripped a shot that had to be parried over the crossbar by the keeper, leading to a scoreless draw two minutes later.
