Baseball Falls to #9 Salve Regina

Washington, D.C. The Montclair State University Baseball team fell to #9 Salve Regina 15-1 on Sunday afternoon to complete their weekend slate in the nation's capital.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (4-2) fell behind early, as Salve Regina recorded three consecutive hits, and after a walk, notched a grand slam to go up by five. Later in the inning, the Seahawks tacked on another marker on a bases-loaded walk, and an error during the next at-bat plated two more runs. They added their ninth tally of the day in the top half of the second on a two-out infield single.
  • Salve Regina continued their offensive stretch in the third, as a single to center field would bring in a run to expand the margin to double-digits. A hit batter with the bases loaded added another marker, and a double down the left field line increased the margin to 13. The Seahawks added one more run in the frame on a groundout that plated a runner from third.
  • Montclair got on the scoreboard in the home half of the fifth, as VINNY AGNELLO led off the stanza with a double to left field. DYLAN BRIGGS recorded an infield single during the next at-bat to move Agnello to third, and a sacrifice fly from LUKAS EGENHAUSER would put the Red Hawks on the board. Salve Regina added their final run of the day in the sixth on a fielder's choice that brought a runner in from second on an error.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • Agnello's double marked his first collegiate hit, with Grant picking up his first extra-base hit of the campaign.
  • BILLY TIGAR extended his season-opening hitting streak to six games, increasing his total to a team-leading eight.
  • JARED LEVIS notched a hit during the contest, marking his sixth of the weekend slate for the Red Hawks.
  • ADAM ROSENFIELD, JAKE LOBUE, and JOHN TOMSHO all made their collegiate debuts.
FROM THE BALLPARK

"Credit to Salve Regina, they did a fantastic job in all phases of the game. We have to do a better job of executing pitches in positive counts to put away good hitters." - Head Coach Dave Lorber
