Season-High in Hits Pushes Baseball Past Greensboro, 10-0

High Point, NC The Montclair State University Baseball team notched its second-straight double-digit performance on Saturday afternoon, surging past Greensboro 10-0 at Truist Point Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (6-2) struck early in the contest, as DANNY O'BRIEN reached base safely to lead off the second on a throwing error by the Greensboro third baseman. Later in the frame, JAXON GRANT walked to put two on for MICHAEL WANSAW JR., who ripped a double to center field to clear the bases. The Pride threatened in the home half of the second, but CHRIS MATESIC recorded an inning-ending strikeout to halt the rally. Montclair added to their lead right after on a RBI single to right field from BILLY TIGAR that plated JARED LEVIS.
  • Matesic continued his strong outing, setting down the side in order in the third and recording a crucial final out in the fourth with a runner in scoring position. Back-to-back bunts from the Red Hawks kicked off the fifth, and after Wansaw stole third, Levis punched a single to center field to increase the lead to four. After Levis advanced to third later in the stanza, Tigar ripped a double to left center to bring in another marker. The Pride placed two on in the fifth with two outs, but Matesic notched another punchout to conclude his day on the mound.
  • Greensboro threatened again in the home half of the sixth, as back-to-back walks coupled with a single to left field loaded the bases with two outs. MATT KING, who ended the inning by generating a flyout to left field. The Red Hawks broke the game open in the eighth, putting the first two batters on with a pair of hits from Tigar and MATT KALISKE. An intentional walk after a sacrifice bunt loaded the bases for DYLAN BRIGGS, who doubled to left field to plate two runs. A wild pitch brought in the third tally of the inning, with LUKAS EGENHAUSER notching a double of his own to drive in Briggs. Levis capped off the day offensively for Montclair with a single to right field, driving in Egenhauser to push the Red Hawks into double-digits.
