#23 Baseball Notches Second Top Ten Victory in Three Games; Defeats #7 Kean 8-6

Montclair, NJ Powered by its 20th double-digit hit performance of the season, the #23 Montclair State University Baseball team took down #7 Kean 8-6 on Friday afternoon at Yogi Berra Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (21-7, 5-3 NJAC) set down the side in order to kick off the afternoon, placing the leadoff man on first in the home half of the stanza after JARED LEVIS got hit by a pitch. Levis stole second two at-bats later and would move to third on a single through the left side by CHASE FISCHER to put runners on the corners. MATT KALISKE broke the scoring open right after on a sacrifice fly, with Kean equalizing with a leadoff home run to left field in the second inning. Montclair pushed right back with a pair of hits from JOHN TOMSHO and MICHAEL WANSAW JR., with Tomsho advancing to third on a fielder's choice. During the next at-bat, LUKAS EGENHAUSER laid down a bunt to plate Tomsho, reaching safely on the play. The Red Hawks loaded the bases later on, but Kean was able to escape the jam.
  • A single, walk, and single would bring in the leveler for Kean to lead off the top of the fourth, with a bunt single right after loading the bases. A sacrifice fly plated the go-ahead tally for the visitors, as BRENDAN ROCHE would halt the rally with a groundout and strikeout on a full count to keep the margin at one. The Red Hawks broke through again in their portion of the inning, putting two in scoring position on a single by Wansaw and a hit and stolen base from DANNY O'BRIEN. Egenhauser drove in his second run of the day on a sacrifice fly, with a groundout from Levis bringing home O'Brien to push Montclair back in front. After ZACH STEARNS was hit by a pitch, CHASE FISCHER ripped a home run to one of the deepest parts of the ballpark to make the score 6-3.
  • Kean countered in the top of the fifth, bringing in a run after four-straight walks that loaded the bases. A single through the right side during the ensuing at-bat drove in two more tallies, with the Red Hawks ending the inning on a rundown between second and third. With the game tied in the bottom of the fifth and Tomsho on second, O'Brien sent a single to right center to nudge the home side back in front. Egenhauser singled during the next at-bat to plate O'Brien to increase the difference to two. CHRISTIAN ADDOTTA entered the game in the sixth, retiring six of seven batters faced to bridge the game to PATRICK TEEHAN, who punched out a trio of batters over the final two frames to seal the victory for the Red Hawks.
