#21 Baseball Blanks William Paterson, 8-0

Montclair, NJ The #21 Montclair State University Baseball team blanked William Paterson 8-0 on Thursday afternoon at Yogi Berra Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (19-4, 3-0 NJAC) took the lead in the opening stanza, as ZACH STEARNS doubled to left center and would advance to third during the next at-bat on a flyout. After DANNY O'BRIEN walked, Stearns would come into score as O'Brien took second and advanced to third on an error with the throwdown. After Montclair halted a potential rally from the visitors in the top of the second, back-to-back walks and a sacrifice bunt would place two runners in scoring position. A fielder's choice that generated an out at home reset the runners on the corners, with a wild pitch scoring DYLAN BRIGGS to double the home lead.
  • William Paterson threatened again in the top of the third, as a double down the right field line would put runners on second and third with one out. MATT KING would maneuver around the jam, generating a popout and groundout. Stearns ripped his second double of the afternoon to kick off the home half of the third, with O'Brien plating him two at-bats later on a single through the right side. A passed ball with the bases loaded would allow O'Brien to score later in the frame, as JOHN TOMSHO would drive in a pair of tallies with two outs on a hard hit double to left field to make the score 6-0 after a third of game play.
  • TYLER DELL would enter the game with two outs in the fourth, inducing a ground ball with two outs to eliminate a scoring opportunity for the Pioneers with two runners in scoring position. The freshman retired three out of four batters in the fifth, and would rattle off a trio of strikeouts in the sixth. Montclair added to their advantage in the bottom of the seventh, as MATT KALISKE sent a ball down the left field line and over the fence for a solo homer to push the gap to seven. The Red Hawks tacked on one more run in the next inning, with Tomsho doubling to right field and advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt from LUKAS EGENHAUSER. JARED LEVIS drove in Tomsho during the next at-bat for the eighth tally of the day, with Dell shutting the door in the ninth for Montclair's seventh-straight victory.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • Stearns led the way offensively with a trio of hits, two being for extra bases. He extended his hitting streak to 10 games dating back to March 15, notching six extra base hits during that span.
  • Kaliske tallied a pair of hits while ripping his third career home run, all coming during the 2026 campaign.
  • Tomsho drove in two runs on two hits, recording a hit in 13 of his 15 collegiate games. He has driven in 17 runs during that stretch, including five performances with two or more RBI.
  • Levis has recorded a hit in each of his last six contests, with O'Brien expanding on his stellar freshman campaign with another hit and run batted in.
  • Dell earned the victory on the mound for the Red Hawks, tossing the final five and a third innings while striking out three batters. The shutout that King and Dell combined for was Montclair's third of the season.
  • Montclair has won seven consecutive games, their longest win streak of the season. The Red Hawks are 87-23 at Yogi Berra Stadium since the beginning of the 2020 season, including a 12-1 mark this year.
