LAST TIME OUT
Montclair clinched the top seed in the upcoming ECAC Tournament with wins of 25-0 and 19-0 on Saturday. Both sides battled early defensively, as Montclair took the opening possession down to the Sacred Heart 17. On fourth down, however, the Pioneers notched the stop as HADDIYAH BELL slotted a pass to MAYA ANICO for ten yards before the visitors came away with the flag pull. The home side forced a punt on the ensuing drive and would march down the field, headlined by big gains from SERENITY MUHAMMAD and KIMORA WESTON. Coming out of a timeout on fourth-and-two, Bell maneuvered into the endzone for a quarterback keeper to make the score 6-0. The Red Hawks created their first turnover of the day on defense, as GIANNAMARIE GREENHALGH intercepted a pass at the Sacred Heart 20 yard line and took it to the house for a touchdown, making the score 12-0 at the end of one stanza. Early in the second, another punt forced by the Montclair defense led to another long drive from the home side, kicked off by a 11-yard rush from EMILY DEL ROSARIO. Sacred Heart stood tall, forcing a turnover on downs on fourth-and-goal. With the clock ticking under six minutes in the half, NYLEA UNDERWOOD tallied back-to-back carries of a combined 19 yards to help move the Red Hawks into prime field position. On the four yard line of Sacred Heart, Bell notched her second touchdown of the day, rushing the ball across the goal line to make the score 19-0. BRI CARTER tallied a sack on the first play of the next drive to set the Pioneers back, who would end up punting three plays later to send the game into halftime. Carter recorded a sack during the opening drive of the second half to help force a punt from the Pioneers. Starting on the opposing side of the field, the Red Hawks got a key 13-yard run from Underwood to set them up at the six-yard line. Sitting at fourth-and-goal from the 10, GENEVIEVE FARA wove through the Sacred Heart defense to find the endzone, capitalizing on the point-after-try to increase the score to 25-0 with seven and a half minutes on the clock. Two plays later, Anico intercepted a pass to flip the field and put the Red Hawks at the Sacred Heart 17. The Pioneers came away with a stop on the ensuing drive, but were forced to punt to end the third quarter. Sacred Heart generated another stop defensively to open the final stanza, but were met with a sack on the first play of the next drive by STEPHANIE IXCACO. A punt from the visitors set Montclair up at the opposing 35 yard-line, getting a pair of big runs from Underwood and Sophia Del Grosso to create a first-and-goal situation. Montclair battled all the way to the two yard-line, as Sacred Heart notched a stop on fourth down and would move the ball out to the 20-yard line. Following a first down and timeout from the Pioneers, Ixcaco came away with an interception to help seal the game, as the Red Hawks would run three kneel downs to make the final score 25-0.
The Seahawks forced a three-and-out on the first drive of the game and moved the ball into Montclair territory with a pair of big rushes. With the ball at the Montclair 36 yard-line, another pair of quarterback keepers would bring Wagner into a first-and-goal situation. Carter came up with a crucial sack on fourth down to halt the drive, with Bell ripping a 66-yard run on the first play of the ensuing possession to set up the Red Hawks at the Wagner three yard line. Shortly after, she would run it in to push the home side in front 6-0 with two minutes on the clock in the first quarter. Carter registered a sack on third-and-one during Wagner's first possession of the second stanza, forcing a punt from the visitors. Starting on the Seahawks' side of the field, Bell once again notched a big run, taking the ball 37 yards into the end zone to nudge the score to 12-0 with 11 minutes remaining. Wagner earned a first down on the ensuing possession, but could not get any further as a pair of incomplete passes would lead to a punt with 6:19 on the clock. Underwood registered consecutive double-digit rushes, combining for 30 yards to vault Montclair onto the Wagner two-yard line. On the next play, Underwood ran past the defense into the end zone with Bell converting the point-after-try to make the score 19-0 at the half. Coming out of the break, Bell amassed 24 yards over a pair of rushes before a penalty and a stop from the Seahawks forced a punt. On third down of the next drive, Carter recorded another sack to continue her strong defensive showing to generate another punt from the Wagner offense. The Red Hawks earned starting field position within the Wagner half of the field, but the visitors forced an incomplete pass on fourth down to change possession with the clock approaching two minutes. Wagner could not gain a first down as the quarter changed over to the fourth, as the Red Hawks took over on downs. Bell continued her strong day on the ground on the next drive with a 16-yard rush to move Montclair to midfield in the early stages of the final stanza. Wagner forced a turnover on downs of their own in the defensive battle of the second half, moving the ball across midfield with a penalty from the Red Hawks on the next drive. Fara collected a sack as the drive continued, with Wagner not being able to find the end zone with time expiring to seal the 10th consecutive victory for the Red Hawks, wrapping up their regular season conference slate.
