HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The beginning portion of the opening was a fight for the ball in the midfield. F&M generated the first corner of the game, but had nothing to show for it. They fired a shot on goal at the 5:36 mark, where KAYLA BALSAMO made the save. The Diplomats finally broke through when their second corner, at 6:48, led to the game's opening goal. They were able to follow up less than a minute later with another strike to take a 2-0 lead. Franklin & Marshall left Montclair without a shot in the first quarter.
  • At the start of the second quarter, Balsamo made another nice save just over two minutes in. The Diplomats struck again about a minute later to extend the lead. Franklin & Marshall was able to extend its lead to 5-0 after a pair of goals between 19:12 and 21:27. BELLA HEISER had the lone Montclair shot down the stretch in the first half blocked, and the game went 5-0 into the halftime intermission.
  • BENNA CLARK entered the game in goal for Montclair and made an early save in the third quarter. Despite some good defensive effort, Franklin & Marshall got another goal through on a slap shot in the middle of the arc to go up 6-0 with a quarter and a half remaining. The Diplomats continued to control the ball on their offensive end, seeing four penalty corners in the third. Clark made three saves, and Karina Cracciolo made a defensive save to keep the game at 6-0 going into the fourth quarter.
  • The Red Hawks battled late in the game. At the 52:58 mark, the Red Hawks saw three consecutive penalty corners. KASEY WATSON had a tip-in in front of the cage get saved, and a nice shot from SAM SUBOKOW went just wide. Montclair saw another three penalty corners in the final minute of the game.
