Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University Men's Soccer team fell to Oglethorpe 1-0 on Friday night in the opener of a three-game road swing.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Red Hawks (3-2-0) were locked in a defensive battle with the Stormy Petrels across the opening 20 minutes, as neither side allowed a shot attempt. Montclair began to push on the front foot shortly after, as KEVIN CONTRERAS ripped a shot that went high in the 24th minute for the game's first look. Two minutes later, the visitors continued to apply pressure offensively, as they rattled off three shots on goal over a three minute span, all stopped by the Oglethorpe keeper.
• In the 35th minute, JOSH VIRGIL ripped a shot from just outside the box on the near side that rang off the post. Two minutes later, KENNETH NEVES notched his second shot on goal of the half that had to be saved by the keeper high center. Montclair had one final opportunity of the half in the 43rd minute, as Virgil sent an attempt that went left of frame to keep the teams scoreless going into the break.
• Within the opening ten minutes of the second stanza, the Red Hawks tallied another pair of looks, with the latter being a shot on goal from SEBASTIAN LAPCZYNSKI to the low right post that had to be parried away by the Stormy Petrels. The two sides tightened up defensively, not allowing another shot until the 64th minute, where Contreras saw an attempt go high.
• The home side broke through for the game's only goal in the 70th minute, sending a shot into the top left corner of the net. Montclair looked for the answer four minutes later, with a look from ROBBY DASLER going high, with Virgil seeing an attempt on goal stopped three minutes after. The Red Hawks collected 13 shots over the final 10 minutes looking for the equalizer, including six on frame, but Oglethorpe withstood the final push to take the contest.

• Contreras led the way for the Red Hawks, totaling six shots, with three on goal.
