84th Minute Goal Lifts #22 Women's Soccer Over FDU-Florham, 2-1

Madison, NJ MARY LANE scored in the 84th minute to vault the #22 Montclair State University Women's Soccer team past FDU-Florham 2-1 on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (5-0-1) received an early save from MACKENZIE SIBELLO in the opening two minutes as the Devils pushed on the front foot for a majority of the opening stanza. Sibello parried away another home attempt in the ninth minute, with the breakthrough goal for FDU coming in the 23rd minute, as a run to the near edge of the box led to a ball sent in that took deflections off two Montclair defenders. The ball found the foot of a FDU player, who ripped a left-footed shot into the back of the net.
  • Montclair tried to flip the game immediately after, as KAYLEE LAUBER notched a shot on goal that was collected by the Devils. The Red Hawks continued to search for the equalizer as the half progressed, with SHANNON MULLINS and ISABELL KRONOW each seeing shots saved. Following a pair of shots from the home side, Lauber attempted another on goal in the 44th minute that led to a corner kick. EMMA EDWARDS was able to get on the ball for one final attempt of the half, as FDU would take the lead into the break.
  • The visitors leveled the contest right out of the gate in the second half, as Lane gathered the ball near the end line on the far side of goal, turned past a defender in the box, and slotted a feed to LAUREN VINELLA, who rocketed a shot past the keeper. Montclair would push offensively throughout the second half, with Lane and Vinella each notching shots on goal over the ensuing five minutes. With the press tightening up past the midway point of the second stanza, Lane tallied another attempt on goal in the 75th minute that was stopped bottom right.
  • FDU's only two shots of the second half came in the 82nd minute, coming on each side of a corner kick sequence. Off the restart, ARIA HICKS sent a shot on goal that was collected towards the top of the woodwork, with the go-ahead goal coming in the next minute. Kronos sent a ball over the back line to the near side of the field for a breaking Lane, who maneuvered around the keeper coming out and sent a shot in to push the visitors in front. Montclair closed out the final six minutes for the comeback victory to continue its unbeaten streak to begin 2026.
