Newark, NJ – The #23 Montclair State University Women's Soccer team fell to New York University 2-0 on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Red Hawks (5-1-1) withstood an early attempt on frame from the Violets, as MACKENZIE SIBELLO gathered the ball towards the low right post. NYU continued to push over the opening half of the stanza, missing the net with a pair of attempts in the 12th and 17th minute before breaking through in the 21st. The Violets received the ball on the near side of the field, cut to the right, and sent a low pass to another player holding up a defender with her back to goal at the edge of the box. A short flick of the ball to a Violet cutting towards goal led to a one-time shot into the top right corner of the net for the breakthrough strike.
• Montclair pushed on the front foot for the remainder of the half, with LAUREN VINELLA notching the first shot of the night for the Red Hawks that was parried away by the NYU keeper. Later in the half, SOPHIA ORELLANA saw an attempt saved out for a corner kick, and shortly after in the sequence, a set piece that delivered the ball into the box led to a header from KIRA HENDERSON that grazed over the top of the bar. Three minutes later in the 33rd, CARLY GUZZARDO ripped an attempt on goal directly off a free kick that was collected by the keeper. The Red Hawks tallied one more attempt on frame, but could not level going into the break.
• Henderson registered another shot on goal towards the top right corner that was stopped in the 52nd minute coming out of the break. Shortly after, NYU looked to double their advantage with a trio of attempts that were stopped by Sibello within the span of a minute. A few minutes later, Sibello notched another save with a shot on goal from the Violets to keep the Red Hawks within one. 
• The NYU defense tightened up as Montclair looked to equalize throughout the second half, with the Violets ripping another attempt that went out top left. The Red Hawks recorded a pair of attempts in the waning moments, as Lukovic and KAYLEE LAUBER each searched for the leveler that went just wide of frame. NYU sealed the contest in the 89th minute, as a striker capitalized won possession of the ball just outside of the box, made a run towards goal, and slotted a shot to the lower left corner.

INSIDE THE RESULTS

• Lukovic and Henderson led the way for Montclair with two shots each, with five different Red Hawks notching a shot on goal.
• Sibello recorded a season-best six saves between the posts for the Red Hawks.
• Across three seasons, Montclair amassed a 26-game unbeaten streak in regular season matches, posting a 20-0-6 mark during that span. It was the longest regular season unbeaten streak since the 2013 and 2014 campaigns.
