Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Edges Johnson & Wales 1-0

Providence, RI The Montclair State University Women's Soccer team capped off an unbeaten opening week on Sunday afternoon, edging Johnson & Wales 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (2-0-1) and the Wildcats held each other without a shot in the opening 10 minutes of the day. Montclair pushed on the front foot shortly after, with ISABELL KRONOW seeing the first attempt of the day blocked before SAMIRA LUKOVIC put the ball on frame a minute later that had to be collected by the home side. As the stanza approached its halfway point, MACKENZIE SIBELLO stopped the first shot of the game for Johnson & Wales in what would be the only attempt on frame in the opening half.
  • Kronow continued to search for the breakthrough goal as she had another shot saved in the 33rd minute, ripping another attempt that went wide within the minute. Shortly after, MARY LANE registered an attempt after checking into the contest, with the Montclair defense blocking a shot from the Wildcats in the 37th minute. The two defenses continued to tighten up, with only one shot attempt being recorded down the stretch of the half to keep the sides scoreless at the break.
  • Montclair pushed offensively in the early stages of the second half, with Kronow seeing a shot on goal parried away from the keeper, resulting in a corner kick. Off the ensuing attempt, KIRA HENDERSON notched a header that went just wide of the net. The Red Hawks recorded two more attempts on goal over the next 10 minutes before LAUREN VINELLA drew a foul in the box. Kronow stepped up and slotted a low right-footed shot into the low left post of goal to break the scoring open in the 65th minute.
  • The visitors tallied three more shot attempts bridging the game over into the final 10 minutes, notching two more before the Wildcats searched for the equalizer in the 85th minute. A shot from just inside the box was collected by Sibello, sealing the road victory for the Red Hawks to end their opening week unbeaten through three games.
