Bobby Abreu is in his third season with the Red Hawks and is the team’s third base coach. Abreu came to Montclair State after serving two seasons as a varsity assistant coach at The Wardlaw-Hartridge School in Edison, NJ. During his tenure, the team improved from a sub-.500 club into a second-place finisher. Abreu was a four-year letter winner at Seton Hall University and led the Pirates with a .390 batting average in 2010 in addition to a .426 on-base percentage, also a team-best. Abreu posted a .304 career batting average and also played in the prestigious Northwoods Summer Collegiate League in 2008. The previous summer, Abreu led the ABCCL Collegiate Summer League in batting average (.386). A graduate of Seton Hall in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, Abreu also earned his master’s degree from Seton Hall and was a member of the Pirates’ Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He was also in the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education and was in the Golden Key International Honour Society. An assistant coach with the Langan Baseball Academy in 2010, Abreu spent three years as a head coach and instructor at the Reddick Baseball Instruction. He is a former All-State player at Piscataway High School and was named to the Perfect Game USA Northeast and National Underclassman Top Prospect Teams.
