Montclair State Prepares for Opener on Saturday Night

Upper Montclair – Montclair State College began its final week of the preseason in preparation for its opener on Saturday night at Sprague Field against East Stroudsburg State. Kickoff time if 8:00 pm.

Last Saturday night the Indians engaged in a full-game scrimmage against Nassau Community College and won 28-10. Trailing at halftime, coach Clary Anderson's eleven roared back with 29 points in the second half to win.

Glen Morchauser, last year's top scorer, with 10 touchdowns, tallied twice on runs of 80 and six yards. Morchauser's 80-yard dash came on the second play came on the second play of the third quarter.

MSC's other scored cam on an 18-yard pass play from quarterback RON GARA to halfback PARKER SNARE and a 3-yard roll-out by reserve signal caller Bob Costentino. BOB BREWSTER, the Indians' extra-point kicker, converted after each score.

MIKE VAN ZILE, former Butler High School star, had an outstanding game against Nassau dumping the Long Island quarterback five times. Anderson expressed satisfaction with the scrimmage although he thought the play in the first half was sluggish.

East Stroudsburg State lost its opener in a wild aerial contest with Lafayette, 27-17 on Saturday. The Warriors' pint-sized quarterback Steve Mummaw, set a school completion and attempt record in the game with 38 completions in 57 attempts for 358 yards and two touchdowns.

Montclair coaches Don MacKay and Tom Test scouted East Stroudsburg and came back with a glowing report on the 5-8 Mummaw. Montclair State's front five, Van Zile, Bill Trimmer, TOM ROTHACKER and TOM D'ONOFRIO are going to have a busy evening putting the rush on Mummaw.

The secondary will also have to play outstanding ball for Montclair to win. The all-veteran group which has been aided y the addition of Lonnie Monceisi, who started for Penn State in the Orange Bowl two years ago, picked off 19 aerials and should have the opportunity to get and outstanding start on that record.

The Indians enter the contest with a five-game winning streak built up in the last half of the 1969 season.
