CHRIS BARAN homered and drove in three runs and replacement
KERI MORGAN also collected three RBI as Montclair State rolled past New Jersey City, 19-1 at the Thomas M. Gerrity Complex on Monday afternoon.
Senior center fielder
SCOTT CLARK also belted a homer and finished with four RBI as he Red Hawks (23-8, 13-1 NJAC) score multiple runs in the early and late innings to stretch its winning streak to nine games. MSU, which defeated the Gothic Knights, 18-3 five days ago, pounded out 20 hits and scored in double digits for the 12
th time this season.
A Baran RBI triple and
CRAIG CONWAY sac fly gave Montclair a 2-0 lead after one and the Red Hawks added to that in the second with four runs.
SCOTT CLARK singled home the first run and Wurst collected a sac fly before Baran's two-run shot put MSU n front, 6-0.
The lead grew to eight runs in the third before NJCU got its lone run on a Neal Czechowski single.
Clark drove in two more in the fourth with a single and an error allowed
ADAM CERMINARO to come home pushing the lead to 11-1. Montclair exploded for eight runs in its final two at-bats. Morgan plated two in the eighth with a double and singled in another during a five-run ninth uprising.
ERIC CANTAGALLO recorded an RBI in each inning with
MATT BECHT,
MIKE SMITH and
SCOTT ALLAN each recording one run batted in.
Left-hander
JASON ARRE went the first five innings to get the win improving to 3-0 on the year. Arre allowed a run and five hits with four strikeouts. Allan fanned five in three scoreless innings with
JIM WHALEN finished up in the ninth.
After playing a brutal stretch of 11 games in a 10-day span, Montclair State will have the next two days off before returning to action on Thursday, April 26. MSU hosts Rowan University at 3:30 pm in the second meeting of the season. The Red Hawks posted an 8-0 victory in Glassboro on April 5.
