Red Hawks Hold Off Stockton Rally for Seventh Straight Victory

Montclair, NJ – Senior third baseman CRAIG CONWAY homered and drove in four runs as Montclair State survived a comeback bid in the ninth inning for an 8-6 win over Richard Stockton at Yogi Berra Stadium on Monday afternoon.

Senior SCOTT ALLAN pitched seven solid innings for the win and also drove in two runs as the Red Hawks (14-6, 4-0 NJAC), extended their winning streak to seven with the win. The game was originally scheduled for Friday, April 6 but was postponed due to rain.

Conway, gave the Red Hawks a 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI ground out. Brad Warner homered to tie the game in the second, however a throwing error in the bottom of the inning allowed FRANK LONGO to score as MSU went back on top 2-1.

Conway tripled home CHRIS BARAN during a three-run third inning as MSU increased the lead to 5-1. Allan helped his own cause with an RBI single and Longo doubled to right-center for the four-run advantage. Allan collected a second run batted in the fifth with Conway blasting a two-run shot in the seventh upping Montclair State's lead to 8-1.

Allan (3-0) departed after seven innings giving up a run and four hits with eight strikeouts and two walks. JOSH PINE threw a scoreless eighth, however the Ospreys (6-12, 0-6 NJAC) put together a five-run rally.

Stockton loaded the bases with one out and got a run home on a fielder's choice. Brett Fereday followed with an RBI single making the score 8-3 and Billy Ballard's single cut the deficit to half. With a runners at first and third, Brad Schlack walked to load the bases. Stephen Karrer lined a double to center scoring Fereday and Ballard however SCOTT CLARK made a perfect throw to home plate with ANTHONY SHOVLOWSKY applying the tag on Schlack for the final out.  

Karrer (3-2) suffered the loss allowing eight runs (six earned) and 11 hits in seven innings with five strikeouts and a walk. JIM WHALEN earned a save, his first.

Montclair State goes right back to work on Tuesday, April 10 heading to Mansfield, CT for a matchup with Eastern Connecticut State University at 4:00 pm.
