Kings Point, NY (12/13/02) - The Montclair State University men's and women's swimming and diving teams split a meet at the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Friday night in MSU's final action of the fall semester. The Red Hawk men lost, 154-87, to fall to 2-4 overall, while the MSU women won, 137-75, to improve to 4-3 on the season.
Montclair State senior REGINA POTOCNIE(Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) finished first in the Women's 400 Individual Medley, in a time of 4:59.33 minutes, and won the Women's 200 Fly in 2:22.57. She also helped MSU to victory in the Women's 400 Medley Relay (4:40.37). Sophomore ERIN HAYES (Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne) took first place in the Women's 1M Dive, with junior DANIELLE FLORIO (Lyndhurst, NJ/St. Dominic's) winning the Women's 200 Backstroke (2:29.60) and senior DEBRA McGARVEY (Union, NJ/Roselle Catholic) claiming the Women's 500 Freestyle (5:54.70).
Montclair junior JASON MARTINELLI (West New York, NJ/St. Joseph's) won the Men's 50 Freestyle in a time of 23.88 seconds, and sophomore SHANE SCHWARZ(Monmouth Beach, NJ/Shore Regional) took first place in the Men's 200 Fly in 2:10.61 minutes. Martinelli also finished second in the Men's 100 Freestyle (53.64).
The Red Hawk women will next host East Stroudsburg (PA) on Jan. 11, 2003 at Panzer Pool, while both MSU teams will be in action on Jan. 15 at College Misercordia (PA).
