LaVerne, CA -- The Montclair State baseball team dropped their second straight game as they fell to the University of LaVerne,4-3 at Ben Hines Field on Thursday afternoon. The loss dropped MSU's record to 2-3 on their seven-game West Coast trip.
Freshman
TOMMY WARTH (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) belted his first collegiate homer and drove in two runs, while the hitting streak of
BRIAN ELLERSON (Bayonne, NJ/HudsonCatholic) came to an end at 20 as he went 0-for-3.
The Red Hawks fellb ehind 3-0 in the third as JAMES ORTEGA hit a three-run homer off reliever Ric Haas (Annandale, NJ/North Hunterdon).
MSU would comeback and tie the game in the fourth as
JOE GIACOMIAZZIO (East Brunswick,NJ/East Brunswick) delivered an RBI double and Warth blasted a two-run homer to right field. But LaVerne would regain the lead in the bottom of the inning as JOE SCOTT hit a solo shot for a 4-3 lead.
Hass (0-1) took the loss allowing two runs and three hits in 1 2/3 innings. He struck out three and walked none. Freshman
CHRIS PACIGA (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) pitched three innings of scoreless relief allowing a hit with four strikeouts.
