Godish-Like Performance Carries Rutgers-Camden Over Montclair State

Little Falls, NJ - Junior centerfielder Chris Godish (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) went 4-for-5, scored three times and drove in five runs as 19th-ranke Rutgers-Camden knocked off fifth-ranked Montclair State, 14-4 in New Jersey Athletic Conference baseball action at Yogi Berra Stadium on Monday afternoon.

Riky Flores (Vineland, NJ/Vineland) homered and drove in two runs for the Scarlet Raptors (27-2, 9-2 NJAC), who defeated the Red Hawks (17-8, 6-4 NJAC) for the first time since April 30, 1994 (a 16-15 win in Camden), a span of 15 games. P.J. BACCARELLA (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) drove in two runs for MSU, which has dropped two straight and four of its last six games.

The Scarlet Raptors jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the fourth as Godish delivered a two-run double and Brent Cossaboon (Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland) drove in a run with a ground out. Montclair would answer back in its half of the inning scoring three times with two out. JOSH MORRISON (Middlesex, NJ/Immaculata) got MSU on the board with an RBI double and Baccarella single to drive home a pair.

But the Scarlet Raptors came right back in the fourth as Corey Hoffman (Turnersville, NJ/Washington Township) tripled home a run and Flores belted a two-run homer run off the left field foul pole for a 6-3 Rutgers-Camden lead. Godish then tripled with two out and scored on a wild pitch to complete the scoring in the inning. The Scarlet Raptors then broke the game open with two runs in the eighth and five in the ninth. Godish, who had a double and two triples in the game, had a two-run single in the ninth.

Righthander Mike Murphy (Blackwood, NJ/Highland Regional) picked up the win going 7 2/3 innings allowing four runs and eight hits. Murphy (6-0) struck out five and walked three. JASON ARRE (Beachwood, NJ/Toms River South) took the loss (2-1).

Flores finished 3-for-5 and Hoffman had two hits for Rutgers-Camden, which pounded out 17 hits in the game. CHRIS BARAN (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) was 3-for-4 for Montclair State.
