P.J. BACCARELLA (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) drove in a pair of runs as fifth-ranked Montclair State snapped a two-game losing streak with a 9-8 victory over Richard Stockton College in New Jersey Athletic Conference baseball action at Yogi Berra Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
CHRIS BARAN (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) homered and had three hits for the Red Hawks (18-8, 7-4 NJAC). Dante Cefalone (Browns Mills, NJ/Bristol (PA)) was 4-for-5 while Frank Primicile (Bayville, NJ/Central Regional) drove in three runs for the Ospreys (11-19, 0-12 NJAC), who have lost 14 of their last 15 games.
Montclair State trailed 4-2 in the fifth when they scored three times to take the lead. Baran singled with one out and came around to score on an error in the outfield on a
JOE GIACOMIAZZIO (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) single.
ADAM CERMINARO (Wall, NJ/Wall) lofted a sacrifice fly to tie the game and
TOMMY WARTH (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) scored on a wild pitch to give the Red Hawks the lead, 5-4.
Montclair added a run in the sixth on an RBI single by
BRIAN ELLERSON (Bayonne, NJ/Hudson Catholic) and after an RSC run in the top of the seventh, Baccarella delivered a two run double for a 9-5 MSU lead heading into the ninth.
In the ninth, the Ospreys struck for three runs Primicile doubled home two runs with one out and scored as the ball got away from the MSU infield. But that would be as close as Richard Stockton would get as Ellerson, the sixth Montclair pitcher in the game, got the final two outs to preserve the win.
Ric Haas (Annandale, NJ/No. Hunterdon) picked up the win in relief. Haas (2-2) went four innings allowing a run and four hits. Chris Falato (Delran, NJ/Delran) took the loss (4-5). Falato allowed 11 hits and eight runs (six earned) in 6 2/3 innings.
Ryan Zegarski (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton West) had three hits for the Ospreys, which out-hit Montclair, 14-12.
