King's Point Tops Swimming & Diving

Upper Montclair, NJ (12/13/03) – Senior Laura Jenkins (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) was a triple winner as the Kings Point women's swimming and diving team helped complete a sweep of Montclair State with a 120-117 victory at the Panzer Pool on Saturday afternoon.

The Mariners' men's team defeated the Red Hawks 146-95 as Jeffrey Boden (Rancho Pacos Verdes, CA/Peninsula) and Jeffrey Kennedy (Ballwin, MO/Parkway West) each won two events.

Kings Point improved to 4-0 on both the men's and women's side while the Montclair State men's team fell to 1-4 on the season. The MSU women's squad dropped to 0-5 this year.

Jenkins captured the 500 (5:43.76) and 1000 (11:30.10) freestyle while also taking honors in the 200 fly (2:27.67). Still the meet came down to the final event - the 400 freestyle relay, which Kings Point won as the quartet of Kim Palmer (Tyler, TX/Alexandria Sr.), Jackie Paul (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven), Kim Sercel (Colorado Springs, CO/Air Academy) and Audrey Meyers (Great Neck, NY/Great Neck North) narrowly defeated the Red Hawks with a time of 4:13.18. For Kings Point, Morgan Evans (San Juan Capistrano, CA/San Clemente) won the 200 individual medley (2:33.02) while Meyers took first place in the 100 freestyle (58.56).

For Montclair State, senior COLLEEN GRIFFIN (Bloomfield, NJ/Lacordaire Academy) won both the 50 freestyle (26.60) and the 200 backstroke (2:28.32). MONIQUE FALLAHA (Montville, NJ/Montville) won the three-meter diving with LAUREN RUSH (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) take first-place in the one-meter event. RACHEL YANNUZZI (Fairview, NJ/Paramus Catholic) won the 200 breaststroke (2:46.29).

On the men's side, Boden won the 100 freestyle (50.46) and 200 freestyle (1:54.75) while Kennedy took first place in the 50 freestyle (22.76) and 500 freestyle (5:08.13). Other winners for the Mariners include Bryan Vagts (Corfton, MD/South River) in the 1000 freestyle (10:43.09); James Hatfield (Gulf Shores, AL) in the 200 IM (2:09.76); Joe Quirk (Cooper City, FL/Cooper City) in the 200 backstroke (2:05.37) and Mark Jimenez (San Antonio, TX) in the 200 breaststroke (2:25.05).

For Montclair State, AUSTIN HOFFMAN (Florissant, MO/McCleur North) won both the one and three-meter diving events while SHANE SCHWARZ (Monmouth Beach, NJ/Shore Regional) took first place in the 200 fly (2:10.19).

The Red Hawks are now off until January 10, 2004 when the women's squad travels to Division II East Stroudsburg. The MSU men return to action on January 14 when its hosts Misericordia in a men's and women's dual meet at 6:30 pm.
