Seton Hall Knocks Off Swimming

Upper Montclair, NJ (12/2/03) – Sophomore TJ Johnson (York, PA/York Catholic) and Ashley Johnston (Windsor, CT/Windsor HS) were double-winners as Seton Hall University swept a dual swimming meet with Montclair State University at the Panzer Pool on Tuesday evening. The SHU men posted a 133-95 decision while the women's squad topped the Red Hawks, 149-74.

Johnson won both the 200 freestyle and the 100 fly as the Pirates took first place in 11 of the 13 events contested. Johnson posted a time of 1:51.43 in the 200 free and then came back to take the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.64. Matt Miklius (Palatine, IL/St. Viator HS) and Evan Koenig (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) were also dual winners for the Pirates. Miklius won both the 100 freestyle (49.61) and the 500 freestyle (4:48.22) while Koenig took first place in the 100 backstroke (55.62) and 100 breaststroke (1:03.00). Miklius also led off the winning 200 freestyle relay team (1:40.68) with Koenig helping the 200 medley relay team (1:39.82) to victory. Other first-place finishers for Seton Hall included Matt Farber (Mifflinville, PA/Central Columbia HS) in the 1000 freestyle (10:45.17); Jason Kay (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) in the 50 freestyle (21.32); and Jack Leavitt (East Boston, MA/Malden Catholic HS) in the 200 IM (2:03.15).

Montclair State swept the diving competition as AUSTIN HOFFMAN (Florissant, MO/McCluer North) won the 1-meter event with a scored of 146.60 points while ERIC LOREE (Norwood, NJ/Old Tappan) took the three-meter with a total of 183.60 points.

On the women's side, Johnston took first place in the 200 freestyle (2:01.66) and the 100 fly (59.49) as Seton Hall won nine of the 13 events. Ashley Pantall (Hainesport, NJ/Holy Cross HS) was a double winner as well as she took top honors in the 200 IM (2:19.01) and the 100 breaststroke (1:10.28). Gertrude Wojciehowski (Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven Regional) was a winner in the 100 freestyle (56.50) with Jessica Kolavosky (Franklin Square, NY/H. Frank Carey) winning the 500 freestyle (5:21.22). Meghan Dennis (West Long Branch, NJ/Shore Regional) won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:16.25.

For Montclair State, senior COLLEEN GRIFFIN (Bloomfield, NJ/Lacordaire Academy) won the 50 freestyle in a time of 25.60, while MONIQUE FALLAHA (Montville, NJ/Montville) captured first-place in the 1-meter and three-meter diving events with 146.90 and 167.60 points, respectively. MSU also finished first in the 200 freestyle relay as Carly Orpurt (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North), KATIE EACHES (Bergenfield, NJ/Bergenfield), SUE SOLLENBERGER (Stratford, NJ/Gateway Regional) and DANIELLE FLORIO (Lyndhurst, NJ/St. Dominic's) posted a time of 1:58.05.
