Kopp's RBI Double Gives Ramapo 14-13 Win Over Montclair State

Little Falls , NJ - Freshman catcher NATE KOPP (Dallastown, PA/Dallastown) delivered an RBI double to snap an eighth-inning tie as Montclair State rallied for a 14-13 victory over Ramapo College in New Jersey Athletic Conference baseball action at Yogi Berra Stadium on Monday afternoon. The game was originally scheduled for Thursday, April 10th, but was postponed due to rain.

Rightfielder Aaron Eyler (Edison, NJ/Edison) was 4-for-5 with four RBI while Doug Meier (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) belted a homer and three RBI for Ramapo (14-7-1, 4-3 NJAC), who had their three-game winning streak snapped. JOE GIACOMIAZZIO (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) and PJ Baccarella (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) each had four RBI for Montclair State (9-11-1, 4-4 NJAC), which has won two of its last three games.

Kopp, who entered the game in the sixth inning as a defensive replacement, lined a pitch from reliever Brian Bendel (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills) into left-center to score MIKE HALLIGAN (Pompton Plains, NJ/Seton Hall Prep), who had reached on an error. In the ninth, Ramapo's Doug Aday (Dallas, TX/Ferris) doubled with one out to put the tying run at second, however reliever and winning pitcher JUSTIN LORENTZEN (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) got the final two hitters out for his first victory of the season.

Ramapo rallied from a 12-2 deficit in the sixth as they scored a run in the sixth and added seven in the seventh to pull within 12-10. Aday capped the inning with an RBI single. MSU would get a run back in their half of the seventh as Giacomiazzio singled home a run, however, Ramapo answered back in the eighth with three runs to tie the game. Meier had a two-run homer in the inning and Eyler's RBI single tied the game at 13-13.
Lorentzen (1-2) picked up the win going the final two innings. The lefthander allowed one run and two hits while walking one. Bendel, the fifth Ramapo pitcher of the game, took the loss to fall to 1-1.

Montclair State built its lead scoring five times in each of the fourth and fifth innings. BRIAN BUTLER (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) had a two-run single in the fourth and Baccarella belted his third homer of the season, a two-run shot, in the fifth. Giacomiazzio added a two-run single in the fifth as MSU took a 12-2 lead.

Aday and Meier each had three hits for Ramapo while Giacomiazzio was 3-for-3 for the Red Hawks. Butler, Baccarella, SEAN JONES (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown), DANNY RODRIGUEZ (South Brunswick, NJ/S. Brunswick) and MIKE WEISS (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape Regional) each had two hits for the Red Hawks who had 16 hits in the contest.
