Mahwah, NJ - JOE GIACOMIAZZIO (East Brunswick, NJ/E. Brunswick) belted a first inning grand slam as the Red Hawks improved to 5-4 in conference play with a 15-8 victory over Ramapo Wednesday afternoon in Mahwah.
Montclair (10-12-1) and Ramapo (15-8-1) faced off just two days ago at Yogi Berra Stadium, with Montclair taking the 14-13 victory.
The Red Hawks led the entire game as the Roadrunners chipped away coming within two runs in the third and sixth innings.
MSU then put the game out of reach as they plated four runs in the top of the eighth inning. Giacomiazzio drove in the first run of the inning with an RBI single.
BRIAN SHEEKEY (Palm Coast, FL/Father Lopez) then drove in two with his second double of the afternoon.
MIKE WEISS (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape Regional) rounded out the scoring with an RBI double of his own for a 14-7 advantage.
Reliever
ALEX THOMPSON (Whippany, NJ/Whippany) earned the win for the Red Hawks. Thompson (1-3) threw 3 1/3 innings allowing four runs, three earned, and six hits. He also struck out three and walked one.
JUSTIN LORENTZEN (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) and
JEFF GOGAL (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) combined for 3 1/3 innings of relief. They allowed just one run on two hits.
Offensively for MSU, Giacomiazzio finished 2-5 with five RBI and two runs scored.
