Salisbury Sweeps Doubleheader with Red Hawks

Little Falls, NJ - Senior Cory Willey (Cambridge, MD) tossed 8.1 innings this afternoon to earn the save in game number one and the win in game number two as Salisbury, MD swept Montclair State 12-9 and 16-4 at Yogi Berra Stadium.

Montclair previously defeated Salisbury 7-5 back on March 1st to open their 2003 season.

Rob Kassekert (Riverton, NJ) led all Sea Gulls (30-10-1) with a 6-for-9 performance including three runs and three RBI. PJ Baccarella (Bayonne, NJ) finished 4-for-9 with five RBI for the Red Hawks (16-18-1) who had their three game winning streak snapped. Salisbury broke a 6-6 deadlock in the bottom of the eighth in game number one. Matt Johnson (St. Michael's, MD) delivered the go ahead run delivering a bases-loaded single to drive in two.

The Red Hawks fought back for three runs in the top of the ninth including a two run homerun by BRIAN SHEEKEY (Palm Coast, FL) and a solo shot from centerfielder ETHAN BOYD (Perth Amboy, NJ). Reliever Star Kriger (Odenton, MD) earned the win for the Sea Gulls. Kriger (4-1) tossed 3.2 innings allowing three runs and five hits. Willey earned his sixth save retiring the final batter of the game.

Salisbury then took over in game number two as they exploded for eight runs in the top of the first inning. Kassekert recorded a two RBI double while teammate Mike Williams (Baltimore, MD) plated two with a single to right centerfield. Centerfielder Trey Cobb (Hagerstown, MD) rounded out the scoring with a two RBI single of his own for the early 8-0 advantage.

Willey then went on to record his sixth win of the season. Wiley allowed 11 hits and four runs, two earned, while fanning six and walking three. Freshman JAY COOK (Westfield, NJ) suffered the loss for MSU. Cook (1-5) allowed ten runs, five earned, and nine hits in three innings of work.

Offensively for the Red Hawks Boyd went 4-for-10 with three runs scored while Skeekey finished 5-for-7 with three runs scored and three RBI.
