Upper Montclair, NJ (1/14/04) – The Montclair State swimming and diving teams split tonight's meet with College Misericordia (PA) at Panzer Pool in the first dual meet of the new year for the Red Hawks. The MSU men won, 105-70, to improve to 2-4 overall on the season, while the MSU women (0-7 overall) fell to the visiting Cougars by just one point, 102-101. Both Misericordia teams are now 4-1 on the season.
Montclair junior
SHANE SCHWARZ (Monmouth Beach, NJ/Shore Regional) finished first in the Men's 200 Fly, recording a time of 2:05.88 minutes, and also took first in the Men's 500 Free in 5:24.97. Misericordia freshman Peter Yelacic (San Antonio, TX/John Marshall) finished first in the Men's 100 Free, in a time of 1:14.43.
Red Hawk senior
DANIELLE FLORIO (Lyndhurst, NJ/St. Dominic's) took first place in the Women's 1000 Free, finishing in 12:11.97 minutes, and also took the Women's 200 Fly in 2:31.49. MSU classmate
COLLEEN GRIFFIN (Bloomfield, NJ/Lacordaire Academy) was first in the Women's 50 Free, registering a time of 26.28 seconds, and also won the Women's 100 Free in 57.67. Sophomore Cara Devine (Dallas, PA/Wyoming Valley West) claimed the Women's 200 IM in 2:22.80, while sophomore Beth Gerlach (Berwick, PA/Berwick) won the Women's 200 Breaststroke in 2:42.26 and also helped the Cougars to victory in the Women's 400 Medley Relay in 4:26.84.
Montclair State hosts Rowan on Saturday, Jan. 17, at 1:00 p.m., while Misericordia will entertain Arcadia at the same time in Dallas, PA.
