South Orange, NJ (11/29/04) - The Montclair State men's and women's swimming teams were swept away on Monday evening as Division I Seton Hall defeated the Red Hawks in a combined meet. The Pirate men's squad posted a 145-81 decision while the SHU women's team defeated MSU, 153-85.
The losses snapped a two-meet win streak for the MSU men (3-3) while the women's team (3-4) fell for the first time in three dual meets.
Freshman
KRISTINE BATES (right) was victorious in the 50 freestyle for Montclair State. Bates captured the event with a time of 26.50 and later added a second-place finish in the 100 freestyle (59.01).
LINDSEY NEWMAN finished third in the 200 freestyle (2:09.04) and the Red Hawks also got a third-place finish in the 100 fly by
DIANA GIL (1:07.05) and second-place finish by
JESSICA GUTH in the 500 freestyle.
On the men's side,
RICKY MILLER and
MARK JAMIESON placed second and third, respectively in the 200 freestyle (1;50.63 and 2:04.66) with
MATT GUIDI earning third place in the 50 freestyle (23.55). Diver
BRYANT EDWARDS was second in the one-meter event (175.10) and later added another second place finish, this one in the three meter event (197.90).
The Red Hawks return to action on December 7 as they travel to Dallas, PA to face Misericordia at 6:30 pm.
