Red Hawks Drop Second Straight; Fall to Ripon in Florida

Clearwater, FL -The Montclair State baseball suffered its second straight loss and fell to 1-4 overall as the Red Hawks were beaten by Ripon College(WI), 8-3, on Monday afternoon at the Clearwater Invitational.

DANNY RODRIGUEZ had a pair of RBI for Montclair while ETHAN BOYD (right) was 1-for-2 with a run batted in.

Montclair State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as MIKE HALLIGAN led off the game with a double down the left field line. Rodriguez then smacked a base hit up the middle for the game's first run.

Ripon would come back in its half of the inning with four runs. Nick Collins plated two runs with a single while John Dulavy added another with a run-scoring single. The final came home on a double play.

The Red Hawks climbed back to 4-3 in the third a Rodriguez triple to right field, scoring MARC DECASTRO, who led off the inning with a walk. Rodriguez would score as Boyd lofted a sacrifice fly.

Ripon would then score in each of its next four at bats. Cory McEwen drove in a run with a groundout in the third inning and Collins drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth to make the score 6-3. Ripon got its final run in the fifth as John Ernser tripled to center field scoring Andy Monigal.

Dan Williams picked up the win for Ripon as he went the distance scattering eight hits. He struck out four and walked three. COLIN FENEIS (0-1) suffered the loss after allowing six runs and six hits in3 1/3 innings.

Montclair State will look to break its two-game skid on Tuesday as the Red Hawks will return to Jack Russell Stadium to face Suffolk at 2:00 pm.
