ETHAN BOYD (right) each hit home runs in Montclair State's 10-runfirst inning as the Red Hawks held on for a 13-11 New Jersey Athletic Conference victory over Rutgers-Newark in a game called after just six innings because of darkness in Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium.
Blackburn, who went 2-for-4, chased Scarlet Raider starter Travis Bilak with a 3-run home run to make it 8-0 before an out was recorded. Boyd, who went 2-for-2,drove a 2-run homer over the left field wall to make it 10-0.
MSU emptied its bench in the bottom of the fifth with a seemingly insurmountable 12-2 lead, but Rutgers-Newark exploded for seven runs to turn the laugher into a contest. Junior righthander
ALEX THOMPSON twice faced the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the sixth to earn a save.
Sophomore righthander
COLIN FENEIS got the win, giving up three runs on six hits in four full innings while striking out four and walking two.
For the Raiders, sophomore catcher Matt Halligan went 3-for-4 with four RBI while junior shortstop Dave Sica was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in. Senior designated hitter James Koehler also went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
