Salisbury, MD - The Montclair State baseball team committed six errors which proved costly as the Red Hawks fell to sixth-ranked Eastern Connecticut State, 9-4, in their season opener at Salisbury University on Saturday afternoon.

TOMMY WARTH and
ETHAN BOYD each had two hits for MSU (0-1), which collected seven hits in the contest.
The Warriors broke on top 2-0 in the second inning as they took advantage of two MSU miscues. Leon Galemba doubled to lead off the inning and after moving to third on an error, scored on a double play for the first run. ECSU made it two-run lead as Chris DeSantis later scored on an error.
Eastern Connecticut added three more runs in the third for a 5-0 advantage. Marc Garofolo highlighted the inning with a two-run double and DeSantis smacked a run-scoring double of his own.
The Red Hawks would get on the board in the fourth when Warth and
MATT BENEDETTI drew walks to put runners on first and second.Freshman
JAMES SCELZO then delivered an RBI single to make the score, 5-1.
After an ECSU run in the sixth, Montclair pulled within 6-4 in the seven with three runs. BrianButler delivered an RBI single and Warth drove in a runwith a ground out while Benedetti lofted a sacrifice fly.
But the Warriors ended any chance fora comeback in the eighth inning as it posted three runs, two comin off the bat of Randy Re, who launched a home run down theleft field line.
Sophomore righthander JairoMendez took the loss as he allowed five runs (three earned)and six hits in 3 1/3 innings. Mendez walked three and struck out three.
Ryan DiPietro picked up the win for Eastern.
The Red Hawk complete their opening weekend series on Sunday as they face host Salisbury at 2:30 pm.
