DeSales Knocks Off Montclair State, 18-6

Center Valley, PA  - DeSales University pounded out 18 hits as the Bulldogs ended a long-standing drought against Montclair State with an 18-6 victory on Tuesday afternoon.

The win was the Bulldogs first against the Red Hawks in 14 tries as DeSales entered the game 0-12-1 against MSU, which includes two losses in NCAA Regional play.

BRIAN BUTLER had two hits and an RBI for Montclair State, which dropped its second straight and fell to 8-11 overall this season.

MSU took an early 1-0 lead in the first as MIKE HALLIGAN was hit by a pitch to open the game and came around to score as Butler lined a two-out double to right-center.

But DeSales came back with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to take control for good. Kyle Peters had an RBI single and Scott Matejicka doubled home three runs. The Bulldogs added three more in the second and then exploded for six in the fourth to take a 12-1 lead. Ian Hauze plated three runs in the fourth with a single.

Montclair State would score twice in the sixth. Butler collected a leadoff triple and scored on a one-out double by ED KLOEPPING. ROB BLACKBURN then doubled down the left field line for the other run. MATT HARTWICK added a sacrifice fly in the seventh and PAUL SAMMARCO drove in the final run with a fielder's choice in the ninth.

Tom Pomanti went six solid innings in his first start of the season to pick up the win. Omanti allowed seven hits and three runs (two earned), striking out six and walking two.

MARC DECASTRO was 2-for-4 for MSU, which registered 11 hits in the game. JUSTIN LORENTZEN took the loss as he fell to 0-3.

Montclair State continues its lengthy road trip on Thursday, April 14 at 3:30pm as the Red Hawks travel to Ramapo to face the Roadrunners fo rthe second time in a week. Last week, MSU posted a 20-11 victory over Ramapo at Yogi Berra Stadium.
