Ramapo Turns Away Montclair State, 13-8

Mahwah, NJ - Freshman ED KLOEPPING (right) belted a two-run homer and drove in four runs, however, it wasn't enough as Montclair State dropped its third straight with a 13-8 loss at Ramapo on Thursday evening.

The loss dropped the Red Hawks to 8-12 on the season, 3-5 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference The win by Ramapo (14-9, 4-4) avenged a 20-11 loss to Montclair last week at Yogi Berra Stadium.

After a scorless first inning, the Roadrunners struck for three runs in the second as Gary Miller doubled home a pair of runs and Jon Westerfield added an RBI single. Ramapo extended the lead with three more in the fourth, Doug Meier had a sacrifice fly and Nick Sbarra singled home pair for a 6-0 advantage.

Montclair State would get three runs back in the fourth as DANNY RODRIGUEZ led off the inning with a double and ETHAN BOYD followed with another double to put MSU on the board. Kloepping then launched a two-run home to center, hits fourth of the season.

However, Ramapo broke the game open in the bottom of the inning with four runs as Meier had a sacrifice fly and Sbarra drove in two runs with a single. Kloepping's two-run triple and BRIAN BUTLER's RBI single in the fifth got MSU within, 10-6, and a run-scoring single by Boyd made it a three-run game.

Ramapo would add two more in the seventh as Brad Szatkiewicz and Joe Rivisto each had RBI singles and the Roadrunners tacked on another run in the eighth as Doug Aday delievered an RBI single.

Chris Stanisce picked up the win as he went the final 4 1/3 innings allowing four hits and two runs. Stanisce (2-2) struck out four and walked two. JAIRO MENDEZ (2-6) took the loss for the Red Hawks.

Boyd and Rodriguez each finished 3-for-5 at the plate, while MICHAEL NUNES went 2-for-4 from his leadoff spot. Kloepping was also 2-for-4.

The Red Hawks return to action on Friday, April 15 as they travel to Union to take on the Cougars of Kean at 3:30 pm. It will be the second meeting between the teams this season as Kean picked up a 9-3 win over Montclair on April 1 at Yogi Berra Stadium.
