York, PA – Jeff Moore singled with two out in the bottom of the 10th innings driving in the game-winning run as York (PA) College rallied from two down in the ninth to beat Montclair State, 10-9, on Monday afternoon.
Moore finished with three RBI for the Spartans (25-10-1), who trailed 9-7 entering the last of the ninth inning.
ED KLOEPPING was 3-for-3 with a homer and four RBI for the Red Hawks (11-18).
Moore played a role in the ninth as he grounded out, delivering a run as the Spartans cut the MSU lead to 9-8. Andy Puglisi then singled in the tying run and later moved to third giving York an opportunity to win the game, however
ALEX THOMPSON came on to retire the final hitter forcing the extra frames.
In the 10th, Justin Heller was hit by a pitch with one out and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After an intentional walk to Ashley Swope, both runners moved up on a wild pitch. Moore then delivered his game-winning hit.
Montclair State fell behind 3-0 after the first inning, but took the lead back in the seventh with four runs.
ETHAN BOYD and
TOMMY WARTH each singled with Boyd coming around to score on Kloepping's RBI single. After a walk loaded the bases, pinch-hitter
JOHN JEDINY tripled to right center clearing the bases and giving the Red Hawks a 8-7 lead.
MSU would extend the lead to two runs in the eighth as
KEVIN CUOZZI struck out to open the inning, however the wild pitch got away allowing Cuozzi to reach second. He moved to third on a passed ball and came home on Boyd's single through the left side.
Thompson took the loss for Montclair State (1-3) while Josh Platt picked up the win (3-0).
Warth finished 2-for-5 for MSU while catcher
MATT HARTWICK was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
After an 11-game slate away from home, the Red Hawks return to Yogi Berra Stadium on Tuesday, April 26 as they host 23rd-ranked Johns Hopkins University under the lights at 7:00 pm.
