ETHAN BOYD drove in three runs while freshman
ED KLOEPPING belted a homer with two RBI as Montclair State erupted for nine runs during the seventh inning in a 20-11 victory over Ramapo at Yogi Berra Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
ROB BLACKBURN and
PAUL SAMMARCO each had a pair of runs batted in as the Red Hawks squared their record at 7-7 (2-1 NJAC) overall with their second straight victory.
Montclair led 4-0 before the Roadrunners came to bat in the first as an error allowed the first two runs to score. Blackburn followed with a two-run single for the four-run advantage.
After the Roadrunners plated two in the fourth, MSU answered in its half scoring five times. Boyd singled in the first run and
MICHAEL NUNES doubled in another before a two-run single by
MATT BENEDETTI extended the lead to 9-2.
Kloepping's blast, a two-run shot in the sixth made it an 11-5 contest, however Ramapo crept back to 11-7 in the seventh. The Red Hawks exploded in the bottom half sending 15 batters to the plate.
BRIAN BUTLER got things going with a two-run single and a two-run double by Sammarco widened the lead to 15-7.
KEVIN CUOZZI added a sac fly and
DANIEL RAMIREZ singled in another with
ROB BOWNESS driving in one as the lead grew to 18-5. Boyd capped the scoring with a two-run double to left-center.
COLIN FENEIS (2-1) got the victory as he went the first five innings.
Boyd finished 3-for-5 while
MIKE HALLIGAN went 3-for-3 as Montclair registered 22 hits.
The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, April 9 with the start of a busy weekend. MSU takes on TCNJ in a doubleheader at home beginning at Noon followed by a second twinbill on Sunday, April 10 at Rutgers-Camden.
