TCNJ Sweeps Montclair State in NJAC Twinbill

Little Falls, NJ - Third baseman Blake Bullis belted a two-run homer in the first game and Mike Feaster brought home the eventual game-winning run in the bottom of the10th with a sacrifice fly in the second contest as 19th-ranked The College of New Jersey swept an NJAC doubleheader against Montclair State at Yogi Berra Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Lions took the first game, 9-5 and won the nightcap, 4-3.

In the second game, MSU's BRIAN BUTLER tied the game at 3-3 delivering a two-out single. MICHAEL NUNES reached on a fielder's choice and went to second as the throw sailed wide of first base. Butler then lined a pitch into left-center for the tying run. In the top of the 10th, Andrew Cosgrove tripled to dead center field with one out of Red Hawk reliever MARTY CABALAR. Feaster then lofted a deep fly ball to right that allowed Cosgrove to easily score with the winning run.

Montclair State (7-9, 2-3 NJAC) threatened in the bottom of the inning as MATT BENEDETTI doubled with two out. ETHAN BOYD then hit a sharp grounder to third that Bullis stopped leaving Benedetti hung up between second and third where the Lions executed the rundown to end the game.

Brad Kittle picked up the win as he allowed just one hit in the final3 1/3 innings. Kittle (3-0) struck out two. Cabalar (0-1) took the loss allowing a run and two hits with two strikeouts and two walks in 3 2/3 of relief.

Cosgrove, who also had two RBI in the game was 2-for-4 as was Rich Kropp. In the first game, TCNJ built a 7-0 lead in the top ofthe fifth inning. P.J. Anzelone delivered an RBI single in the fourth and came home on an error as the Lions scored three times in the fourth. Bill Kropp had an RBI single in the inning.TCNJ then added four more in the fifth, two coming off the bat of Bullis, who belted his sixth round-tripper of the season.

Joe D'Alessandro earned the win as he went the first 7 2/3 inningswlloeing eight hits and five runs. D'Alessandro fanned 11 and walked one. Blake Ortiz finished up allowing a hit and walk in the final four outs. JAIRO MENDEZ fell to 2-5 took the loss for MSU.

Chris Wilson was 3-for-5 for the Lions while Anzelone, Bullis and Charles Iacono each had two hits. ED KLOEPPING and Butler were each 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Red Hawks.
