RICKY MILLER (Seaside Park, NJ / Monsignor Donovan) set a new mark in the 1650 while the MSU women's 4x100 relay team set another as the Red Hawks broke to Panzer Pool records in a dual meet split with Misericordia on Saturday. The men posted a 133-106 victory while the women's squad fell to the Cougars, 141-121.
JOHN ADAMS (Wharton, NJ / Pope John XXIII),
JON KURTZ (Stockholm, NJ / Vernon Township) and freshman
BLAISE LACCA (Sewell, NJ / Washington Township) were each triple winners as the MSU men improved to 4-3 on the season while the women's squad dropped to 3-4.
Miller broke the school mark as he swam at time of 17:49.16 as he led a 1-2 MSU finish in the event.
RYAN GORSKY ( Williamstown, NJ / Williamstown) clocked in behind Miller at 18:58.78. Meanwhile, the women's 400 freestyle relay team of
BRITTANY COLE ( Linden, NJ / Linden),
RAQUEL ERWIN ( Ridgewood, NJ / Ridgewood),
GALINA LOUTCHOUK ( Richboro, PA / Council Rock) and
KRISTINE BATES ( Clark, NJ / Arthur L. Johnson) set their new mark with a time of 3:50.76.
Loutchouk would go on and add two more victories in individual competition. The freshman took first in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 19:37.36 and then won the shorter 500 freestyle with a time of 5:35.50. Bates also won two events as she captured the 100 freestyle (56.82) and then finished third in a top three sweep by MSU in the 50 freestyle. Erwin won the race with a time of 25.99 followed by Cole (26.08) and Bates (26.45).
On the men's side, Adams, Kurtz and Lacca teamed with Joe Knolmajer ( Bridgewater, NJ / Bridgewater-Raritan) to win the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:42.79. Adams took first place in the 200 and 200 backstroke events with times of 56.59 and 2:07.42, respectively. Lacca tallied wins in the 50 and 100 freestyles (22.70 and 51.11) while Kurtz claimed his two top finishes in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.60) and 200 breaststroke (2:26.50).
Knolmajer earned a first-place finish of his own as he won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:57.54. Miller added another win to his outstanding day taking first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:09.97.
The Red Hawk men return to action once more before the end of the 2007 calendar year. MSU will host the United States Merchant Marine Academy in a 6:00 pm meet at the Panzer Pool on Tuesday, December 11.
