ROB BOWNESS (Sparta, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) each cracked home runs, however, No. 2 Chapman University used back-to-back four innings en route to a 10-6 win over No. 3 Montclair State in Red Hawks West Coast Trip finale on Saturday.
Rob Clark (Livingston, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) and
MICHAEL NUNES (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) each had two hits for MSU as it concluded its trip at 6-2 and heads back home with a 6-4 overall mark.
Chapman took a 1-0 lead in the top of the secon, but the Red Hawks scored twice in the third to take its only lead of the game. Nunes and Clark collected consecutive singles with one out that put runners on the corners and
LOU POLITAN (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) brought home the first run with sacrifice bunt. Miller then drove a single through the right side for the second run as MSU led 2-1.
But the Panthers came back with a run in the third as Patrick Ohail singled ro right-center to score Ryan Prechtl, who walked to open the inning. Chapman would extend the lead to 6-2 in the fourth highlighted by a two-run double by Prechtl. The Panthers added four more runs in the fifth on five hits as they widened the lead to 10-2.
The Red Hawks got a run pair of runs back in the sixth inning. Boweness led off the frame with his second home run of the year.
KEVIN CUOZZI (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) would follow with a single and he came around to score as Nunes' ground ball was mishandled.
Miller connected for his team-leading third home run to lead off the seventh and Montclair got another run in the ninth as Bowness delivered his second RBI of the game on an infield single.
Bowness finished 3-for5 on the day while Miller and Clark each went 2-for-5 at the plate and Nunes two hits in three at bats.
Montclair returns to action on Wednesday, March 21 as they travel to Delaware to face Wilmington College at 3:00 pm.
