New Caslte, DE - Senior catcher
ANDREW VICARO (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) blasted a three-run homer and finished with four RBI as Montclair State blanked Wilmington College (DE), 7-0 in a five-inning, rain-shortened contest on Friday afternoon.
Junior third baseman Rob Clark (Livingston, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) and sophomore rightfielder
SCOTT EVANGELIST (Northfield, NJ/Holy Spirit) each homered as the Red Hawks improved to 7-4 this season in their first contest since returning from its West Coast trip last week.
The Red Hawks also upped their record to 9-2-1 all time against the Division II Wildcats.
Freshman
JESUS CASTANO (West New York, NJ/Memorial) picked up his second win of the year as he allowed five hits. Castano struck out just one hitter and only allowed two runners to reach third base.
MSU provided Castano with the only offense he would need in the first inning.
MICHAEL NUNES (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) singled and
ROB BOWNESS (Sparta, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) reached on a fielder's choice. The runners moved up on a double stral and Vicaro plated Nunes with a sacrifice fly. Evangelist then belted a two-run home run, his second of the year for the final two runs.
MSU added a run in the fourth as Clark connected on a solo home run with one out in the inning. It was Clark's first round-tripper of the year.
Vicaro then capped the scoring in the fifth with a three-run shot that scored Bowness and
JEFF MILLER (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo).
Nunes was 2-for-4 for the Red Hawks, who had eight hits in the game.
The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, March 24 as they take on undefeated Cortland at William Paterson's Wightman Park beginning at 10:30 am.
