Division I Seton Hall Tops Swimming & Diving

South Orange, NJ (12/6/10) – The Montclair State men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to Division I Seton hall University in a dual meet on Monday at the Arthur E. Imperattore Natatorium on Monday evening. The men fell to the Pirates, 134-91 while the women suffered a 152-76 loss.

Montclair is now 4-4 overall on the men's side, 3-4 for the women's squad.

Sophomore THOMAS LONG (Morristown, NJ / Morristown) led a 1-2-3 finish by the Red Hawks in the men's 50 freestyle. Long posted a time of 22.34, touching in ahead of ZAK WESTERBERG (Hamilton, NJ / Hamilton North) and senior Senior BLAISE LACCA (Sewell, NJ / Washington Township), who registered times of 22.70 and 22.75, respectively.

Sophomore MICHAEL SMITH (Cherry Hill, NJ / Cherry Hill East)had a pair of second place finishes. Smith swam 49.93 in the 100 freestyle and then went 4:57.16 to place second in the 500 freestyle Westerberg was third in the 100 freestyle clocking in at 50.14.

Diver ANTHONY CACELLA (Denville, NJ / Morris Knolls) was second in the one-meter event posting a score of 118.43 points.

For the women, senior LAURA SPADONI (Nazareth, PA / Nazareth Area) and junior KELLY ABNER (Glenwood, NJ / Vernon) were second and third, respectively in the 100 butterfly with times of 1:04.22 and 1:06.88.

Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, December 11 as they take on Ramapo College at the Panzer Athletic Center beginning at 1:00 pm. It will be the final dual meet competition for the Red Hawks until January 22, 2011.
