Montclair, NJ – Sophomore lefthander
Michael Macchia (Middletown, NJ, Middletown North) spun a four-hit shutout in his second complete game of the season as Montclair State extended its winning streak to five games with a 4-0 victory over The College of New Jersey on Thursday afternoon.
Freshman centerfielder
Philip Scott (Paulsboro, NJ, Paulsboro) drove in three runs as the Red Hawks (13-13, 7-4 NJAC) took the first game of the home-and-home set with the Lions (16-10, 5-6 NJAC). The two meet again on Friday, April 18 in Ewing, NJ at Ackerman Park beginning at 3:30 pm.
Macchia collected his first career shutout as he upped his record to 4-1 on the season. The lefthander struck out five and walked one in his 105-pitch outing. Evan Edelman (2-2) took the loss for the Lions.

Ryan Long (Washington Township, NJ, Washington Township) reached on a one-out error and
Lou Martini (Flemington, NJ, North Hunterdon) was hit by a pitch.
Christopher Reynolds (Randolph, NJ, Randolph) drew a four-pitch walk loading the bases before Scott delivered with a single to right field scoring Long and Martini as MSU led 2-0.
Macchia made that hold up as he retired nine of the next 10 batters through the fourth inning when Josh Limon led off with base hit. Macchia retired the next three hitters and added the side in order in the sixth before giving up a one-out single in the seventh. He would get the next two batters to end the inning and went 1-2-3 in the eighth before Montclair State gave him some breathing room with two runs in the bottom o f the inning.
Martini singled to open the inning, stole second and went to third on a throwing error. He would score on a fielder's choice RBI by Scott, who came around on a triple by
P.J. Jennings (Morris Plains, NJ, Morristown) as the Red Hawks took a 4-0 advantage.
Macchia would run into a little trouble in the ninth as the Lions put the first two batters on however the left got the next three batters, including a strikeout to end the game.
Scott finished 2-for-4 at the plate as did designated hitter
Keith Murphy (Point Pleasant, NJ, Point Pleasant Boro).
