Montclair, NJ – Freshmen
JAMES SINGEWALD and Charles Cobberrt each won two events for the men while senior
SYDNEY STEIN, sophomore
ERIN CANNON and freshman
MARTHA PENDER did the same for the women as Montclair State swept a dual meet from Misericordia University at the Panzer Athletic Center Pool on Saturday.
Both teams posted their third straight wins as they improved to 4-2 on the season. The men registered a 134-90 win with the women collecting a 136-104 victory against the Cougars.
Singewald and Cobbertt got Montclair off on the right foot swimming the leadoff and anchor legs, respectively as MSU captured the 200 medley relay.
KEVIN CLAUSS and
STEVEN ROTH joined the two for a time of 1:40.47. Singewald later added a win in the 100 backstroke (55.99) and made it a sweep in the event taking the top spot in the 200 backstroke at 2:04.52. Cobbertt won the 200 freestyle clocking in at 1:47.23 and posted a time of 22.20 to take the 50 freestyle.
Freshman
MITCHELL LAYNE led a 1-2-3 finish for the Red Hawks in the 1000 freestyle. Layne swam 10:37.79 touching out
DAN KNEPPLE by .03 seconds (10:37.82).
FRANCIS PINO was third at 10:49.77. Clauss (1:03.25) and Knepple (1:04.48) were first and second in the 100 breaststroke with
HUNTER ROMANOWSKI swimming 50.31 to take the 100 freestyle.
KEVIN HENNINGSEN captured the 200 butterfly edging out
MICHAEL PACHECO. Henningsen recorded a winning time of 2:08.26, .09 ahead of Pacheco with
ANDREW DAMATO coming third at 2:14.76.
ANDREW HENDERSON was second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:06.07.
Stein led MSU to the top three spots in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:48.06.
ASHLEY SINGEWALD was second at 11:52.27 with
BLAIR FRANTZ taking third at 11:57.30. Stein added her second win in the 500 freestyle (5:29.23) with Pender sweeping the 100 and 200 breaststroke events with time of 1:16.91 and 2:24.63 respectively. Cannon took both backstroke events winning the 100 in a time of 1:04.04 and the 200 in the time of 2:17.82.
Cannon led a 1-2-3 finish by MSU in the 200 back as
COURTNEY MUNRO (2:21.20) and
NATALIE WALL (2:24.04) were second and third, respectively. Montclair would do the same in the 200 fly as
ALLISON BARTH won the event in a time of 2:32.36. Munro was second at 2:34.29 with Pender taking third at 2:40.31.
SAMANTHA DOWD was victorious in the 100 freestyle posting a time of 57.74.
TORI HOLZBERG was second at 58.19 seconds and
KATHERINE LACAVA made it a 1-2 placing for the Red Hawks in the 200 breaststroke clocking in at 2:47.52.
The Red Hawks are now off until the new calendar year. Montclair State will be in Madison, NJ on Monday, January 4, 2016 taking on FDU-Florham.
