South Orange, NJ – The Montclair State men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened their 2016-17 campaigns with a split of a tri-meet with Seton Hall University and Saint Peter's University on Friday evening.
The MSU men (1-1) fell to host Seton Hall 167-106 and beat St. Peter's 153-126. Meanwhile the women (1-1) also earned a split falling to Seton Hall 158-93 and topping St. Peter's, 133-61.
The women's 200 medley relay team placed fourth as the quartet of
ERIN CANNON,
CLAIRE LUIGARD,
ALLISON BARTH and
MARGAUX WINCHOCK posted a time of 1:56.85. The men's team of
JAMES SINGEWALD,
DAN KNEPPLE, Gibson and
CHARLES COBBERTT finished fifth with a time of 1:40.28.
ASHLEY SINGEWALD was fourth in the 1000 freestyle (12:31.35) and Cannon was fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:03.22). Luigard and
MARTHA PENDER were fourth and fifth, respective in the 100 breaststroke with times of 1:11.05 and 1:18.60.
MADISON FRANKE
swam 25.91 in the 50 freestyle to take third and she was also fifth in the 100 freestyle (56.99).
COURTNEY MUNRO posted a second-place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:35.38) and Cannon earned another Top 5 finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:16.56. Freshman
PONSEE IBRAHIM won the 1-meter diving with a score of 144.77 points.
For the men,
STEVEN ROTH won the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.85 seconds with
JAMES SINGEWALD winning the 200 IM (2:05.59).
KEVIN GIBSON finished second in the 500 freestyle (5:01.00) and
NICANDRO DONADIO was fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:25.76).
JAMES SINGEWALD later added a fourth-place finish in the 200 backstroke (2:03.59) and third-place standing in the 100 backstroke (55.40).
The men's 200 freestyle relay of Cobbertt,
HUNTER ROMANOWSKI,
FRANCIS PINO and Roth were second with a time of 1:31.05.
The Red Hawks return to action on Friday, October 21 at Drew University beginning at 5:00 pm.
