RYAN THIEME hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth plating
PHILIP SCOTT with the winning run as Montclair State closed out its RussMatt Invitational schedule with a 3-2 win over UMass Dartmouth on Sunday morning.
The Red Hawks finished out their 11-game slate at 5-6 snapping a two-game losing streak.
Montclair escaped a potential threat from UMass Dartmouth in the top of the ninth as the Corsairs put the first two runners on via an error and a hit batter. But reliever
TAYLOR PARSONS regrouped and got the next three batters, including a comebacker for the final out setting the stage for MSU's at bat.
Scott reached on a bunt attempt and went to second as the throw to first base skipped away.
KEVIN CAMPBELL was intentionally walked to set up a forced however that was foiled as a wild pitch allowed the runners to move up to second and third.
KEITH MURPHY was put on to load the bases before Thieme singled scoring Scott with the winning run.
The RBI was the second of the game for Thieme, who tied the score in the fifth inning after UMass Dartmouth scored a run in the third.
JOE FOOTE collected a one-out single and went to third when Murphy doubled down the left field line. Thieme grounded out bringing home Foote as the game was tied at 1-1.
Montclair State took the lead the following inning.
JUSTIN EPIFANIO led off with a bunt single and went to second on a sacrifice by
RYAN LONG.
KEVIN ALONSO followed with a double putting MSU in front 2-1. A bases-loaded walk issued by Montclair in the eighth inning tied the game.
Parsons got the win to even his record at 1-1. He struck out in his four-out stint.
MICHAEL MATARAZZO went the first seven innings allowing four hits and a run. He struck out five and walked one.
Epifanio, Murphy and Alonso had two hits each for the Red Hawks.
Montclair is now off until Saturday, March 19 when they are scheduled to face Oneonta in a doubleheader at Yogi Berra Stadium beginning at Noon.
