IAN LYNCH each belted homers however it wasn't enough to prevent Montclair State from a third straight loss as the Red Hawks fell at DeSales, 6-4 on Wednesday.
Lynch finished 2-for-3 for MSU, which fell back below the .500 mark at 8-9. Tyler Sweeney had four hits and an RBI for DeSales, which improved to 7-8.
Kane gave Montclair State a 1-0 lead in the third inning with his first home run of the year however that run was matched in the bottom half as the Bulldogs successfully pulled off a double steal with Tommy Esparo swiping home.
MSU went back on top in the fifth when
KEVIN CAMPBELL singled through the left side scoring Kane. Campbell would come around to score on an error as Montclair State led 3-1. The Bulldogs responded again with three runs. Mike Kacergis collected an RBI single as DeSales took a 4-3 lead.
The Bulldogs added two more runs in the eighth extending the lead to 6-4. Those runs proved important as Lynch homered to lead off the ninth pulling MSU within two runs. The Red Hawks would get another runner on with one out however reliever Evan Fraser induced a game-ending double play.
MICHAEL MATARAZZO took the loss for MSU as he fell to 0-2. The righthander allowed six hits and four runs (three earned) in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out three and walked two. Steven Wallace (4-1) got the victory for DeSales. Wallace gave up five hits in seven innings, striking out five and walking two.
Montclair State returns to action for one final non-conference game before heading into NJAC play on Saturday. The Red Hawks are at Purchase College on Thursday, March 31 at 3:30 pm before returning home to face Stockton University on Saturday, April 2.
