JOE FOOTE drove in three runs while
RYAN THIEME and
PHILIP SCOTT each added a pair of RBI however Montclair State dropped its second straight falling to St. Joseph's College (ME) 13-11 at the RussMatt Invitational on Tuesday.
KEITH MURPHY went 3-for-5 with three runs scored as the Red Hawks fell to 3-2 on their Florida trip.
MSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Thieme singled home
RYAN LONG with the first run and Foote followed with a bases-clearing double. The Monks (4-1) sliced that lead in half in the bottom of the inning before the Red Hawks exploded again in the second with four more runs.
Thieme had an RBI single and Murphy delivered a run-scoring double down the left field line with
AARON KANE lofting a sac fly for a 7-2 MSU lead.
KYLE MISSRY plated the final run with an RBI single for the six-run advantage.
St. Joseph's countered with five run in its half of the second, the final two coming on a two-run homer by Nic Lops making the score 8-7. The Red Hawks pushed the lead back to four runs, 11-7 as Murphy scored on a wild pitch in the fourth and Scott singled home Long and
KEVIN CAMPBELL in the fifth.
But the Monks struck again in the fifth on a three-run homer by Jameson Collins to pull within a run and took the lead in the sixth as Lops tied the game with a single with Brett Barbati putting SJC in front with an RBI base hit. Barbati would account for the final run in the eighth on an RBI single.
Long, Scott, Thieme, Murphy, Foote and Campbell all had multiple-hit games for Montclair State.
The Red Hawks are back in action on Wednesday, March 9 with a doubleheader against Roger Williams University beginning at 1:00 pm.
