PHILIP SCOTT homered while senior lefty
MICHAEL MACCHIA went seven innings as Montclair State completed a series sweep of New Jersey City with a 3-2 win at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex on Friday. MSU defeated the Gothic Knights 8-1 at Yogi Berra Stadium on Thursday.

TAYLOR PARSONS recorded the final six outs for his third save of the year as Montclair moved past the .500 mark for the first time since March 26. MSU is now 16-15 overall, 7-5 in the NJAC following the sweep. NJCU, which has lost 11 of its last 12 fell to 14-16 overall, 0-12 in the conference.
Macchia got out of a little jam in the first inning stranding runners at second and third and then got the lead in the second as Scott led off with his first home run of the year over the right field fence. MSU would threaten for more however Anthony Carfora induced a ground out to end the inning.
Macchia and Carfora traded zeroes on the board until the seventh when Montclair extended the lead to 3-0.
AARON KANE led off with a walk and a sacrifice by
KEVIN CAMPBELL was misplayed putting runners at second and third.
RYAN LONG followed with a double scoring Kane for the first run and an RBI ground out by
JOE FOOTE gave Montclair State a three-run cushion.
But the Gothic Knights immediately answered in the bottom half as Joe Coutinho doubled in a pair of runs cutting the deficit to 3-2. A single by Dimitri Rueger put the tying run at third base however Macchia got a fly ball to end the inning with the Red Hawks still on top.
Parsons came on in the eighth and allowed a one-out single before getting a "round the horn" double play. In the ninth, NJCU got the leadoff runner on via an error but Parsons struck out the next hitter on three pitches for the first out. He then got a pair of fly balls to end the game.
Macchia scattered nine hits in seven innings, striking out one as he improved to 5-2 on the year. Carfora took the loss falling to 1-3. Long had two hits for MSU.
Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, April 23 at home with an NJAC doubleheader against Rutgers-Newark beginning at 11:30 am. It will be Senior Day as the Red Hawks honor eight players - Macchia,
