Wayne, NJ – The Montclair State men's and women's swimming and diving teams won the "Route 46 Battle" on Saturday as the Red Hawks swept local rival William Paterson in their final NJAC meet of the 2016-17 season.
Both teams are now 8-3 overall and finished 2-2 in the conference after the men recorded a 158-111 victory while the women registered a 154-115 triumph. Montclair State has won each of the last six dual meets against the Pioneers.
MSU opened the meet with victories on both sides of the 200 medley relay.
ERIN CANNON,
MADISON FRANKE,
MARGAUX WINCHOCK and Christina Cumano combined on a winning time of 1:58.19 while James Singlewald,
KEVIN CLAUSS,
STEVEN ROTH and
CHARLES COBBERTT swam 1:40.52 to take the top spot for the men.
Winchock captured the 1000 freestyle on the women's side with a time of 11:46.16 with
MITCHELL LAYNE (10:30. int6), Roth (10:42.30) and
ANDREW DAMATO (11:10.27) going 1-2-3 respectively for the men.
CLAIRE LUIGARD (2:06.58) and
KEVIN HENNINGSEN (1:52.86) swept the 200 freestyle with Cusmano (1:03.86) and Cobbertt (56.15) doing the same in the 100 backstroke.
JAMES SINGEWALD led Montclair State in a 1-2-3 showing in the 100 breaststroke. Singewald went 1:02.90 with
DAN KNEPPLE (1:02.3) and
ANTHONY KALAFATIS (1:06.87) placing second and third respectively. Luuigard added a second win in the 200 butterfly posting a time of 2:21.18.
MICHAEL PACHECO swam 2:04.41 to take the men's 200 fly. Cusmano picked up her second win in the 50 freestyle (26.21) with MSU sweeping the event after
HUNTER ROMANOWSKI swam 22.66 seconds in the men's race.
BENJAMIN HERNANDEZ won the first section of the 1-meter diving with a score of 175.70 points.
???????Winchock added victories in the 100 freestyle (58.13) and 100 butterfly (1:04.47).
ASHLEY SINGEWALD took first in the 500 freestyle (5:39.82) and
COURTNEY MUNRO was a winner in the 200 backstroke (2:15.36). Cobbertt and Knepple were winners in the 100 freestyle (50.84) and 200 breaststroke (2:21.45), respectively.
The Red Hawk men will have one more dual meet before heading into championship season. MSU heads to Poughkeepsie, NY on Wednesday, February 1 taking on Vassar College. Both teams will then take part in the Metropolitan Conference Championships which will be held February 17-19 in New Brunswick, NJ at Rutgers University.
