South Orange, NJ – Less than 24 hours after their season-opening sweep of Drew University, the Montclair State men's and women's swimming and diving teams were back in action with a tri-meet against Division I Seton Hall and Monmouth Universities.
The Red Hawks earned a split of the meet with both teams falling to the Big East Pirates but sweeping MAAC member Monmouth. The men (2-1) fell to SHU 173-67 but beat Monmouth 159-98. Meanwhile the women (2-1) suffered a 191-91 setback to the Pirates and registered a 159-123 triumph against the Hawks.
Sophomore
CLAIRE LUIGARD posted the lone individual first-place finish for the Red Hawks as she claimed the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:19.25.
JAMES SINGEWALD was second in the same event with a time of 2:06.06 with
STEVEN ROTH (52.46) earning second in the 100 butterfly.
KEVIN HENNINGSEN was third in the 100 fly at 54.70 seconds.
MSU's 400 freestyle relay team of
MADISON FRANKE, Christine Cusmano,
EMILY ROTHAMEL and
GENNA BREWER were also victorious clocking in at 3:46.30.
ERIN CANNON, Luigard,
MARGAUX WINCHOCK and Cusmano combined for third in the 200 medley relay as the quartet swam 1:54.94. The men also finished third in the even as Singewald,
ISAAC NITRO, Roth and
CHARLES COBBERTT recorded a time of 1:35.11.
MICHAEL PACHECO placed third in the 1000 freestyle (10:40.05) while Cannon and Singewald each placed third in the 100 backstroke. Cannon timed in a t 1:02.23 with Singewald registering a time of 54.43 seconds.
KEVIN CLAUSS (1:01.57) finished third in the 100 breaststroke with Singewald claiming his third Top 3 finish of the afternoon in the 200 backstroke (2:00.39).
Roth was third in the 200 butterfly posting a time of 1:58.91.
Following a busy first weekend, the Red Hawks are off until Friday, October 27 when it hosts perennial NJAC power The College of New Jersey to the Panzer Athletic Center Pool for a 5:00 pm conference matchup.
