Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State women's swimming and diving team set two new pool records while the men saw three competitors win two individual events as the Red Hawks swept past Misericordia at the Panzer Athletic Pool on Saturday.
Freshman
GENNA BREWER won three individual events as the Red Hawks women upped their record to 6-1 with a 157-98 victory over the Cougars. The men are now 4-2 following a 144-103 triumph.
The MSU women opened and closed the meet setting a new pair of Panzer Pool records. The 400 medley relay team of
ERIN CANNON,
CLAIRE LUIGARD,
MARGAUX WINCHOCK and
CHRISTINA CUSMANO won the event with a time of 4:12.10 breaking the previous standard of 4:13.37. Cusmano and Brewer then joined
CATHERINE COOPER and
MADISON FRANKE in the 200 freestyle relay posting a time of 1:41.96 erasing the record of 1:42.37.
Brewer picked up two of her wins in the freestyle events winning the 200 in a time of 2:02.14 and the 100 in 55.44 seconds before adding a third in the 100 butterfly (1:00.83).
EMILY ROTHAMEL took top honors in the 1000 freestyle (11:45.77) while Cannon (1:01.90) led a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 backstroke. Winchock was a winner in the 200 fly (2:26.59) with Cusmano (25:99) winning the 50 freestyle.
COURTNEY MUNRO was the final individual winner for the Red Hawks capturing the 200 backstroke (2:14.50).
CHARLES COBBERTT swept the 100 (48.66 seconds) and 200 freestyle (1:48.37) with
STEVEN ROTH doing the same in the butterfly. Roth posted a time of 52.74 in the 100 event and registered a time of 1:59.03 in the 200 fly.
KEVIN GIBSON was a winner in the long-distance freestyle events taking the 1000 in a time of 10:20.81 and the 500 clocking in at 5:01.38.
JAMES SINGEWALD was a winner in the 100 backstroke (54.55 seconds) and swam the lead off leg of the winning 400 medley relay (3:37.60) joining Clauss, Roth and Cobbertt in the winning quartet. Clauss won the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:02.60.
Montclair State is now off from dual meet competition until the 2018 calendar year. The Red Hawks return to action on January 13 in Glassboro at Rowan University.
